Today, we started the day out by learning a new skill: making “Mari”, a decorative folk art ball, out of thinned out bamboo sticks. To be honest, it was quite tiring because we were so focused and struggling to make them look pretty but we still had a lot of fun. Afterwards we headed out to the seaside and fished our dinner. Back home, we prepared and enjoyed our feast all together.

Learning a new skill (Mari) and getting better and better at another (fishing and peeling fish) is such a nice thing we can experience here and we can’t wait to discover more of this island, the culture and the people here.

今日は、間引いた竹の棒で「マリ」という民芸品を作る為の新しい技術を学ぶことから一日が始まりました。正直、集中してきれいに仕上げようと悪戦苦闘してかなり疲れましたが、それでもとても楽しかったです。その後は海辺へ行き、夕食の魚釣りをしました。家に帰ってから、みんなで一緒にごちそうを準備し、楽しみました。

新しい技術（マリ）を学び、別の技術（魚釣りと殻むき）がどんどん上達していくのは、ここで体験できる素晴らしいことであり、この島、文化、そして人々をもっと深く知るのが待ちきれません。
