We drove to the beach house and had a look around the area, having barbecue and conversations with the locals.

Today, we were tired from our 13 hour boat trip to the island so we took it slow today. But here are a few interesting things we learned in our first day :

– All the island’s activities and working life revolve around the arrival and departures of the 2 weekly ferries.

– The ferry is more than just a passenger ship, it’s the only way to supply the population of Takarajima and all the other Toshima Islands.

– People from the island gather on ferry days to help unload/deliver parcels to and from the ferry because there are no designated workers in those domains.

– There are a lot of workers that work across all Toshima islands to help revitalize the villages.

Most importantly, we want to thank the extreme hospitality of the host family and all the other islanders who were incredibly warm to us ever since our arrival at the port.
